Early American Decorative Arts “A Brush with History” Join us for a “Brush with History,” presented by the Central New York Chapter of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration. This year’s annual Spring meeting will be held on April 23-25, 2010, at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Auburn, New York. The Historical Society of Early American Decoration is a nonprofit educational organization that is dedicated to researching, teaching and reproducing historically authentic early American decorative arts. In keeping with the goals of HSEAD, the CNY chapter has joined with the Seward House Museum of Auburn, New York, to examine the decorative arts of New York and the Seward House Museum. Peter Wisbey, former Executive Director of the Seward House Museum, will be Friday evening’s guest speaker. Mr. Wisbey will give us an overview of the decorative arts within the Seward House Museum. Also included as part of Friday’s after-dinner entertainment, will be Karen Bove who will present a program titled, “Mrs. Seward at Home”. Ms. Bove will be in character during her presentation. Saturday’s events will involve three programs given on a rotated basis of 50 people per rotation. The programs will include a docent-led tour featuring the decorative arts of the Seward House Museum, a presentation by Jim Havener titled, “Wild Creativity: The Grain Painted More House,” and Ms. Susan Blakney, Chief Conservator at Westlake Conservators, speaking about “A Central NY Painting Conservators’ Experience Treating Americana.” Sunday’s program will be presented by Mrs. Mary Obrist, member of the Central New York Chapter of HSEAD. Mrs. Obrist will discuss, “The Decorated Floors and Walls of Central New York”.
